8 Tips for Waxing Bikini Areas

8 Tips for Waxing Bikini Areas

Hair removal is a choice, and if you’re not bothered by the hair in a particular place, you don’t have to worry about taking steps to remove that hair. That being said, having unwanted hair in delicate places is the worst!

Certain areas, such as your bikini area and face, are particularly sensitive when it comes to getting rid of unwanted hair, and you’ll want to do a bit of research before you commit to a specific type of hair removal. Fortunately, we are here with some essential tips:

Choose a Method

There are several common hair removal methods, and you’ll want to choose one or several. Here are the basic options:

Shaving

Shaving

This is a standard go-to but can be tricky when it comes to the pubic area because nicks and cuts will be extra uncomfortable. However, if you are committed to shaving, take your time, and do it right, it is definitely a viable pubic hair removal method.

If shaving is your chosen method, make sure that you’re pulling the skin taut to avoid nicks, and you’ll definitely want to be gentle with the razor! The downside of shaving? Hair will grow back pretty quickly.

Tweezing

Tweezing

Tweezing, or plucking, offers a precise solution to unwanted hair around the bikini line. If you have several unwanted hairs in your bikini line, tweezing is an excellent way to rid yourself of those without resorting to major hair removal. Likewise, tweezing is a great way to ‘clean up’ after shaving.

The downside of tweezing? It does hurt, and you’ll have to do it several times to really get all of the unwanted hairs out of the way- which is why we don’t recommend tweezing if you have a lot of hair to remove.

Waxing

Waxing

Waxing is a popular way to get rid of unwanted hair, including hair in your bikini area. While waxing is painful, you can get the hair out in several strips instead of one at a time. Before you wax, you’ll want to warm up your skin and exfoliate to make the process easier.

You will also want to choose between hard and soft wax. While hard wax tends to be less painful, it can be applied to the same area twice and is less messy. Soft wax, which is great for grabbing smaller hairs, is also a great option. Keep in mind that you’ll need the wax, strips, applicator, possibly warmer, and some sort of skincare plan for waxing.

It is also important to note that you’ll need to grow out your hair to ¼-¾ of an inch for waxing to be effective, which means dealing with the hair until it’s long enough to wax.

Trimming

Trimming

This allows you to shape the hair in your nether regions without really removing everything. After all, there’s nothing wrong with having pubic hair. Having an unruly bush, on the other hand, can be problematic.

Simply grab a small pair of scissors and trim the extra hairs to make the bush more manageable and neater. This is probably also the easiest to maintain and carries the least pain risk- assuming that you’re careful.

Depilatory Creams

Depilatory Creams

At home, depilatory creams can be an excellent way to clean up the pubic region without worrying about pain or accidental injury. However, you’ll have to be careful with where you apply the cream and make sure not to apply it beyond the desired area. Note that only some depilatory creams are considered safe for the nether regions, so you’ll want to read instructions carefully before you purchase.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a great way to get rid of unwanted hair and can be done at salons and spas by a professional. As with waxing, laser hair removal requires a certain hair length. You’ll also want to read the policies carefully to avoid adverse effects from the laser.

Consider Your Budget

As you review the above selections, you’ll want to consider your budget. If you can afford professional services or laser hair removal on an ongoing basis, that’s great. But, if not, consider a backup plan.

Set Realistic Expectations

Each method of hair removal will yield a different result and require different forms of upkeep. There’s nothing wrong with using two methods in conjunction, as long as they make sense. For instance, if you’re waiting to wax, plucking stray hairs to avoid them peeking from under your bikini is a good strategy. On the other hand, if you have a beach day tomorrow and too much hair to pluck, you might need to shave.

It is also important to remember that there is a risk involved with most methods of hair removal. You might nick yourself with a razor, pull off a layer of skin with a wax, or develop an allergic reaction to a new depilatory cream. The key is to approach hair removal with common sense and a bit of care.

    Opt for Quality Products

Choosing quality products will help reduce your risk of adverse reactions. This might mean using good scissors or razors or opting for a high-quality wax set, such as the quality wax kits from Nacach wax, which are great for beginners and experienced waxers alike.

You’ll also want to ensure that you’re using quality products to prepare your skin and for aftercare.

    Keep It Clean

This one is obvious, but you’ll want to be as clean as possible during hair removal when it comes to the skin around the bikini line. Clean before, during, and after and of the above hair removal methods.

Remember that some hair removal methods such as waxing and laser require that you stay away from pools and heavy exercise for the first 24 hours to avoid ingrown hairs.

    Know the Warning Signs

While bumps are normal after certain hair removal methods, prolonged redness and itchiness are not. Know the potential side effects of your preferred hair removal method and how it may present on your skin.

    Take Your Time

This might seem pretty obvious, but you should never rush hair removal, especially when you’re dealing with a sensitive area. Sure, you might be running late or on a tight schedule, but rushing through with waxing, razors, or even rushing a professional who is doing the work for you, is simply a terrible idea.

    Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin can help avoid unsightly bumps and will help soothe irritated skin after hair removal. Remember to patch test any new moisturizers on the underside of your arm.
