Why It’s So Important to Moisturize After Waxing

After waxing, skin oil can be depleted. You will want to know how to hydrate skin to restore the protective barrier that has been removed. Depending on how sensitive your client’s skin is and how they react to waxing, you can apply a gel, lotion, or oils for skin replenishment.

There are several ways to do this. You can try a homemade face moisturizer, but a DIY facial moisturizer may fall short or even irritate the skin. In the salon environment, it’s probably best to avoid some of the suggested post-wax options like a yogurt-based homemade face mask for dry skin, for example. You want to keep the skin bacteria and acid-free, and use only tested ingredients that soothe and moisturize.

This is not to say that there aren’t DIY face masks for dry skin that you can try. Below are ingredients that will most likely not irritate skin and may help your clients to find the best ways to approximate a natural skin moisturizer:

Mint and Green Tea

Mint is a natural cooling agent, and tannins in green tea may help reduce discomfort or swelling. It’s suggested to boil 1½ cups of water with two cups of fresh mint leaves and 4 to 5 green tea bags. Let the mixture brew and cool for at least 30 to 40 minutes. Soak a cotton ball in this mixture and apply it over the affected area.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is said to work wonders on inflamed skin, reducing pain and redness. The proportions are one cup of raw apple cider vinegar to approximately 2-3 cups of warm water, and it can be applied over the affected areas with cotton pads, sterile gauze, or a clean cotton towel. Some people who wax swear it reduces bumps, and it may rebalance the skin’s pH.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree is a good essential oil for preventing and treating waxing bumps. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It must be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut oil in a proportion of 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Because it’s very potent, it should be tested on the client before using it on large areas.

Witch Hazel

It is often used as an aftershave due to its astringent and antiseptic qualities, as well as its ability to reduce redness and irritation. It’s especially helpful for preventing white bumps on the upper lip from flaring up after waxing the mustache area. It’s a natural moisturizer for face and included in many facial toners, so it should be safe to use on most waxing areas throughout the body.

How to Moisturize Face and Body

For the face, you’ll want to keep moisturizing applications extremely mild. You needn’t worry whether you need to use a moisturizer vs. lotion, but make sure your choice is proven for post-waxing. In general, if it works for the face, it should be gentle enough for the body.

For irritated skin, you may treat the area with a moisturizing salve that’s also a healing ointment.

Look for those that protect the skin and are advertised as a minor wound and burn ointment with a sting-free formula that provides soothing relief to minor scrapes. Pure aloe vera gel may help. For really irritated skin, you can use or advise your client to use a quality over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream.

For overall body care, you may want to instruct your waxing clients to use one of the new wet skin moisturizer products at home. These are meant to be used in the shower and can continue to keep the body moisturized, although some manufacturers recommend keeping skin dry for the first 48-hours after waxing.

Professional Products for Post-Waxing Care

More practical than keeping fresh mint and aloe plants on hand in your salon, it’s also expedient to order the best products for professional waxing environments.

One of the more soothing moisturizing lotions is Nacach Wax’s Post Wax Moisturizing Milk. The formula includes calming aloe, calendula, and chestnut extracts, and it cleanses the skin while gently soothing any irritation. After waxing, this lotion leaves the skin feeling renewed and smooth.

If your client wants a non-greasy treatment to be able to slip into clothes quickly after waxing, this moisturizing milk is the answer. It’s also helpful for preventing ingrown hairs. Because it’s so gentle and non-oily, it’s ideal for the face as well as the body.

Post Wax Body Oil

An intuitive solution to replenish skin after waxing is to use natural oil. Oils have the combined benefit of restoring a protective barrier and helping to remove any lingering traces of wax. This particular blend of natural oils by the professional waxing supplier Nacach is non-greasy, making it ideal for massaging into the skin after waxing. Combining pomegranate and Vitamin E with other natural oils, it has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It will lend a far more ethereal experience to culminate your client’s waxing session than ordinary baby oil could possibly do.

Post-Wax Refreshing Gel

This menthol-based gel has an intense refreshing action that helps reduce redness from hair bumps and skin irritation post waxing. If you have a client that complains of post-wax breakouts or acne, the ingredients in this gel can help with antiseptic properties. The cooling gel is imported from Italy, where it’s made with the highest grade of natural ingredients and, like all Nacach products, is paraben-free.

Post-Wax Refreshing Cream

Another option to restore skin to an even better than the pre-waxing moisturized state is Nacach’s cooling, post-depilation cream with menthol and tea tree oil. It’s easier to use for tea tree oil’s benefits than mixing tea tree oil with a carrier oil.

General Advice

Be careful to never apply a post-waxing product or home remedy to broken skin. If you are tempted to try various natural facial moisturizer products for post-waxing, be sure to test them on a variety of clients with different skin sensitivities before trusting them on every customer and every waxing area.
