The Difference: Soft Wax Beads vs. Hard Wax Beads

by Lucas Dearaujo on September 20, 2022

Are you one of those people stuck in between soft wax and hard wax? Let us learn a bit more about the two types of wax, including their pros and cons.
These two types of waxes are very similar, except one does a more delicate task than the other.

They provide a longer time before you start seeing some hairs poking through your skin. Remember that not all hairs grow the same texture, size, and length in different body parts.

To make it simple, hard wax needs a little more time to cool and solidify before applying it to the skin. On the other hand, soft wax is removed immediately after pressing the strip tightly to your hairy skin.

Soft Wax Beads vs. Hard Wax Beads

Soft wax is what you often think of when you imagine body waxing. It is applied using a waxing spatula before it’s removed with a muslin strip. This wax is ideal for bigger areas such as the armpit, legs, and arms.

Taking more skill to use, hard wax is a bit different. It’s a lot thicker and applied warm with a spatula. After it hardens, it’s removed without the use of a strip. Hard wax is often used when waxing the face. On top of that, it’s the best option for sensitive skin like the bikini area. It attaches itself to the hair and not the skin, minimizing discomfort and the possibility of irritation.

However, soft wax is perfect for Brazilian waxing. Compared to traditional bikini waxing, where a tiny strip of hair is left on top, everything is taken off from the labia to the rear with Brazilian waxing. That area, in particular, is a little more sensitive for one reason—the hair is coarse as it grows in various directions. It makes the soft wax more efficient and less painful for patients.

Pros and Cons of Soft Wax Beads

  • Soft wax adheres to the skin more than hard wax, exfoliating the skin more.
  • It grabs fine hair smoothly, working better in bigger areas of the body.
  • Unlike hard wax, it can’t be applied to the same area twice, as it eliminates layers of dead skin.

Pros and Cons of Hard Wax Beads

  • Hard wax is less painful in the face area.
  • It can be applied in small regions, or it will break, making it inefficient to use on bigger areas of the body.
  • It leaves no sticky residue and is much simpler to clean up.

Final Thoughts

So, what do you think? Would you rather use soft wax or hard wax? Well, the answer depends on how your skin responds to a certain type of wax during and after application.

One way may work better for other people than others and other areas of the body. If you have low pain tolerance and have sensitive skin, you might like to go for the hard wax as it lessens the chance of severe irritation.
